1. How do I access the Parent/Student Portal?
Open a web browser on your computer and go to: http://ps.hsd1.org:8080   — or for quick access, you can use the link at the top of the page on the CHS homepage.  Type in your user ID and password.

2. I don’t have a computer at home. How can I get access?
The Lewis and Clark Public Library provides public access to computers and the Internet. Please contact the library for hours of operation.

3. I typed in my user ID and password, but it won’t log me in.
Be sure you use the numeric key for the number zero “0” and the alpha key for the letter “O”.  Also, make sure two “V” letters together aren't keyed in as a “W”.

4. When I click on a teacher’s name to send an email, it doesn't’t work.
The hyper-links for teacher email require a mail application to be set up on the local computer. If you use a web-based email program, you can right-click on the email link, then copy and paste the email address into the “To:” field of your new message.

5. I would like more information about the grade my child received.
            Click on the actual letter grade to view specific information about the assignment.

6. There is no balance when I click on the lunch balance icon.
The Helena Public School District is not using the lunch feature of PowerSchool.  Please continue to go directly to Mealtime for lunch information.

7. If I have questions or problems, who can I call?
Please contact our PowerSchool administrative assistant, Michelle Adsem. She will either assist you or refer you to someone who can.

8. How often will teachers update grades?
Teachers have until Friday of a current week to enter grades for the previous week.  However, it is important to remember that larger projects may require additional time for review before grades are posted.

9. What should I do if my child’s teacher has not updated grades?
Initially, please contact individual teachers directly (by phone or email) for any concerns. You are welcome to follow up with CHS Principal, Randy Carlson, if necessary.

10. What should I do if I forget my user ID or password?
Please call or email PowerSchool administrative assistant, Michelle Adsem. The parent letter will be re-sent to the address on file.  Michelle’s email is:  madsem@helena.k12.mt.us and her phone number is:  (406)324-2474.

11. Can I change my password?
The Parent/Student Portal does not provide for password changes.

12. Will students have a user ID and password?
Unique student user IDs and passwords will be distributed to all students at a later date. Please emphasize the importance of confidentiality. Students must not share their IDs and passwords with others. Although students have the ability to access the PowerSchool Parent/Student Portal on their own, you are encouraged to sit with your child regularly to review school information. Our goal for this initiative is to provide students and parents the opportunity to engage in meaningful communication regarding academic achievement.

13. What Parent/Student Portal features will be available to CHS parents and students?
Initially CHS parents and students will have access to grades and attendance.

14. Are the user IDs and passwords the same every year?
No, new unique user IDs and passwords will be issued each school year.

15.  My computer’s browser asks me if I want it to remember my PowerSchool password.  What should I do?
Do not click “yes”.  To ensure confidentiality, Parent Portal passwords won’t be stored correctly by the browser.  You will need to enter your username and password every time you sign on to the portal.
